What is the one thing better than your tow truck turning up to rescue you at the roadside at long last?
Well, not needing the ride in the first place!
Here are some tips to try and avoid ever having to need roadside assistance in the first place!
KEEP TOPPED UP WITH GAS
You would be surprised how many roadside assistances we have had to attend because of a car being out of gas!
It should be the easiest thing in the world to keep your car filled up, but sometimes you just might forget.
It might help to get into the habit of refueling on a certain day or days, or if you are making a longer journey, after a certain number of miles.
Have a point on your tank that you never dip below – this might be a quarter or a half tank full, depending on your circumstances.
GIVE YOUR CAR THE ONCE OVER EACH GAS STOP
And when you are refueling, it should then be easy to get used to checking your car’s vital signs when you get gas.
This includes things like;
Checking the tire pressure. You can do this by simply looking at them and the tread on them.
Checking the oil. We would advise this especially in older models as it is more likely to cause a problem.
Give the whole vehicle the once over for any signs of damage or debris.
Get under the hood and look at the engine and hoses. Can you see any leakage?
Give the windscreens some love. It wouldn’t hurt to clean the screens whilst you are at it, you can never see too clearly after all!
GET REGULAR CHECK UPS
There doesn’t have to be something wrong with your car for you to give it a check-up. Especially if your car is older (2008 and earlier) it is more likely to need some regular TLC.
We would recommend taking it in for a check up every 3000 miles or so.
KNOW HOW TO CHANGE A TIRE
Really, it will help you if you know the basics of changing a tire, as you never know when disaster might strike.
First thing is first – make sure you have always got a spare tire in your vehicle.
It only takes about a quarter of an hour and it could save you so much time, trouble and of course, unnecessary expense!
